Our kids are growing up in a generation where they are spending more time in front of a screen than outside.

“Over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates have tripled in the U.S., and today, the country has some of the highest obesity rates in the world: one out of six children is obese, and one out of three children is overweight or obese.”

If you, like many parents and guardians, are having trouble encouraging your kid(s) to exercise, try the following to get your kids moving!

  1. Make it a game!

Whether it’s playing tag, throwing around a baseball or football, playing kickball, or even playing dance video games, making exercise fun is the key to encouraging your kids to get up and moving!

  2. Do something out of the ordinary

Try rock climbing, going to a trampoline park, taking a family hike or walk on a nearby trail! If your child is less enthusiastic about getting active, even gardening together or building things can be a great way to stay active!

  3. Make it a competition

Kids absolutely love competition! Try setting up a relay race or obstacle course in your backyard for your kids and their friends. Here is a great idea for a DIY “Ninja Warrior” course!

  4. Last but not least, be a good role model

Lead by example. Show your kids the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle, and be sure to join them when they are exercising! If you’re having fun and enjoying yourself, they will too!
